Privacy

Last updated 10 August 2026

Munchwave is anonymous. There are no accounts, no payments, and no location data — you can swipe a deck and settle a dinner without telling us who you are. This page describes the only systems that observe your visit.

Analytics and monitoring

We use ChiliTrack and Umami side by side as cookieless, privacy-first analytics. Neither sets cookies, neither tracks you across other websites, and neither builds a profile of you.

What we record: the page address you visited (with any ?query and #fragment removed), the referring site, your approximate country, and your browser and device type. The same request also carries the title of the page you viewed, your screen size and the language your browser asks for. The location above is derived from your IP address: our geolocation database resolves it to a country and, where it can, to a region and a city — never to a street or a person.

In-app actions. When you use Munchwave we record that an action happened and what it was called — that a solo wave started, that a result was revealed or shared, that a group invite was copied — along with a little technical context such as how many cards a deck held. We use this to see which parts of the app people actually reach.

Performance monitoring. We measure how quickly pages load and respond — Core Web Vitals such as loading time, responsiveness and layout stability — together with the address of the page being measured. This is about the behaviour of our own site, not about you.

Error monitoring. When something breaks in your browser we record the error message, the technical stack trace, the page address, and a short trail of the actions that led up to it (page changes and network requests our own site made). We use this to fix faults. Faults on our own servers are recorded the same way. This runs on GlitchTip, an error tracker we operate ourselves at errors.a14a.org; it is not an advertising or profiling service, and the trail contains no swipes, no clicks, no typing and no logged message content.

What we do not do: we do not record your screen, we do not replay your session, and we do not build interaction heatmaps. We do not record which dishes you swipe or the taste and avoidance settings you choose, and we do not send form input to any analytics or monitoring system.

A group wave has a web address containing the session ID that people join with. That ID is replaced with a placeholder before any of these systems receives the address, so it is never stored. Beyond that, no personal data is collected by these systems.
